The Road To Wedded Bliss – Part Eight

Here at the Thrasher-Horne Center, weddings are second nature. Our massively accommodating Events Center has played host to hundreds of perfect weddings for couples all over the region. As a result, we’ve encountered numerous bridal checklists – all of which provided varying degrees of personal success for the new bride. After witnessing the best and the worst, we’ve assembled the following as your ultimate go-to list, which we’ll be doling out in monthly installments to keep you on schedule until your big day.

Mother Nature found it necessary to deliver Florida some nasty storms right in the middle of your Month Seven checklist, but hopefully your home and venue weathered the hurricane and you’ve kept up to date on your plans. If for any reason you need to revisit our prior checklists, we have them available via these handy links (one, two, three, four, five, six, & seven). If not, we shall continue forward with Part Eight of our yearlong wedding planning guide. Below, you’ll find your next steps on the path to a perfectly smooth blissful wedding.

ONE MONTH BEFORE

Is there something you’re forgetting?

Everything is going great and most of these items are just to ensure that everyone else is on the same page as you.

  • Call vendors to confirm. This is just another check-up.
  • Begin to pack for the honeymoon. Or at least decide what you’ll need for your adventure.
  • Confirm honeymoon reservations and agenda.
  • Print menu cards and programs.
  • Final dress fitting if necessary.
  • Practice walking in your shoes. Especially if they are not the type you would normally wear. Purchase a pair of comfortable shoes for the reception. You won’t regret it.
  • Check in with the venue coordinator. They may want to know they have everything exactly as you wish.
  • Schedule a practice hair styling session for the big event. You want to be extra gorgeous on your special day.
  • Mail the rehearsal dinner invitations. Your wedding party will be looking forward to it.

We Love Our Volunteers!

Tuesday evening was a proud night for the Thrasher-Horne. It was the night of our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner, when we pay tribute to the men and women who make sure our experience at the theatre is always top-notch. Past events have been epic affairs with themes like Casino Night and Speakeasy, and this year was no exception, as we booked our second annual evening at the Hilltop Club and Restaurant for a three-course dinner and awards ceremony.

Check out our pictures from the evening below, and contact our House Manager Sarah Blanc at (904) 276-6770 if you might be interested in volunteering with the Thrasher-Horne Center and attending one of our upcoming volunteer parties!

Veda Deen Takes NYC!

Last season at the Thrasher-Horne we hosted our sophomore Broadway Series, building on the success of our inaugural season the year before and debuting a collection of four professional musical tours on our stage including the national and regional premiere of Into The Woods, hilarious performances from Avenue Q and Xanadu, and crowd-favorite Mamma Mia!. For only the second time in Northeast Florida history residents were offered an alternative venue outside of downtown to experience a season of blockbuster musicals fresh from the Great White Way.

We once again offered Broadway Series Subscription Packages to provide easy access and a great discount to you, ensuring your favorite seats to each one of our hit musicals without the hassle of individual ticket purchases. And we couldn’t offer all this without debuting another contest with an all-expense paid trip to New York City as the grand prize. An entry into the contest was included with the purchase of a Broadway Subscription, and our winner was announced last November before the beginning of our Broadway Season. And as you may remember, our lucky winner was none other than Veda Deen!

Like our inaugural winners The Calloways, Veda Deen was a perfect recipient of the grand prize. Since 2014, Mrs. Deen has attended every Broadway and Dance production on our Main Stage. In fact, she was completely surprised when we called to award her the prize, as she renewed her Broadway Subscription with no idea there was a contest involved. We love that kind of loyalty from our supporters, and we were thrilled to reward her with a long weekend in the Big Apple in the week leading up to the 2017 Tony Awards, complete with airfare on American Airlines, hotel accommodations at the Distrikt Hotel in the Garment District, and tickets to Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre and Miss Saigon at the Broadway Theatre.

Veda Deen was completely thrilled with her New York experience. She hadn’t been to the city in over 30 years, so it was eye opening for her to see all the changes that Times Square has gone through. The weekend was spent sightseeing through Midtown Manhattan (including Trump Tower) and enjoying some authentic NY Pizza and a NY Danish. Overall, New Yorkers still moved around as quickly as Veda remembered, but everyone went out of their way to be helpful and friendly to her during her stay.

Check out some snaps of our winner’s trip below, and make sure to reserve your subscription (and secure your contest entry) for our 2017-2018 Broadway Season, including A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, Cabaret, The Wizard of Oz, and Jersey Boys!

Who will win next year’s trip? It could be YOU!

2 MONTHS BEFORE

It’s crunch time

You’re down to the wire and everything is going smoothly. Just a couple of months to go.

  • Mail the wedding invitations. Set the RSVP cutoff date at three weeks before your big day.
  • Check in with all the vendors. This is to ensure that nothing is amiss.
  • Meet with the photographer. You’ll want to discuss specific shots and locations at the venues.
  • Decide “something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.” Come on, it brings good luck.
  • Book a spa and beauty appointments for you and the bridal party.
  • Purchase gifts for bridal party. If these can mirror your theme, great. If not, choose something you know the members of the party will love.
